Body image.

What do you think about when you hear that? How do you feel about yourself? Do you look at yourself in the mirror and nitpick all your flaws? Saying to yourself “I have facial hair… I am in fact, a ball of jiggle jelly… I have stretch marks…” Etc..

Tonight I was doing my nightly roaming around autism blogs,  reading about other people’s own experiences, and wondering if anyone had anything similar to me. Usually what I end up finding is the worst case scenario,  and that throws me into a tizz – What if that happens to Alexa??

Today is my birthday eve. Saying goodbye to 30, and moving on to 31. As I reflect over the year…  I have to say this was a challenging year…  A year of lessons. A year of growth.

Listen… Pause.. Breathe… Talk with Care.

July 22/15

About 3 months ago, one of my closest friends – who has 3 beautiful children – got some news about her youngest daughter. She was going in for her 12 month check up, and my friend was told she was at a 10 month level. She was told to come back in 2 months, and if the baby was not at a 12 month level at that time, they would have to take their next step in intervention.

Hopefully, I’m Not All Talk…

July 13/15

I’m here listening to my daughter snore through the baby monitor right now. It’s a soft,  peaceful snore.  You can tell she’s in a deep sleep.  Safe and cozy in her bed. It really a beautiful noise.  Little breath in.  Tiny breath out. It’s actually very cute.  The rhythmic breathing is very relaxing to listen to.

So, you’re probably asking “Robyn.  Seriously you going to write a blog about Alexa’s snoring? Dude, the picture is even of Alexa in her bed…” The answer is no, I’m not.  But I thought maybe now is a great time to write a blog while relaxing in my bedroom. I have a few topics in my mind…  Just listening to the breathing and trying to commit to one.

Hindsight is 20/20

June 26/15

They say when you have a child,  all decisions are made for them. And you make these decisions based off the knowledge you had at the time. Of course hindsight is, as they say,  20/20. And,  when you look back at your decisions, you have new knowledge. Information you did not have at the time and you only have right this second.  But you still feel as though you made the wrong decision, even though you did not have the same info you do now.

A lot Can Change in 6 Short Months.

June 23/15

As you know, my baby girl – Alexa, is delayed.  I have been giving vague details as to what was going on, as I wasn’t ready yet to really talk about it. Well, it wasn’t that I didn’t want to…  I obviously needed to talk about it,  but I didn’t know how. It wasn’t that I didn’t understand.  I understood the words but still had to process it. It wasn’t that I wanted to put my head in the sand,  it was quite the opposite as I knew something was off as early as at least 6 months old. I guess…  I didn’t know what to do with the information.

*** You’re now going to see a shift in topics for a bit, as I write about how I processed my daughter’s journey. Remember, these next few blogs were written in 2015.***

Do you know how hard it is when you ask your two-year-old to do something,  and she doesn’t do it?  Well, you are probably thinking “Well Robyn, that is a typical two-year*old.” and well it may be.

I have been to Florida about 3 times as a kid and 5 times as an adult. So,  I have some great tips and tricks on things I have experienced.  Though, this next time we do go, I will have Alexa with me so I will do things I have never done,  which is going to make it all new and exciting.

Choosing a Place to stay in Florida

Travelling to Florida Part 5 – I know that it’s been a while since I’ve written about travelling to Florida. This time I’ve decided to talk about finding a place in Florida to stay. Once again I’m using Florida as the place that I’m picturing when talking about these tips and tricks. But these could be used in a lot of different travelling arrangements, and are in no way limited to Florida.
